Smile Common Sense Approach on YD.

Hi All,

Well the hard bit's over - you've joined!

The 'rules' in this section, such as they are, are here for the benefit of all YD'ers: Admins, Moderators and Members alike; new, current and the 'Old and Bold'.

We try and run an easy and mostly casual ship at YD, that way folks are comfortable enough to post and share their honest thoughts, experiences, hopes, fears and most importantly - their BANTER! [except of course where a topic needs to be treated seriously and/or with respect.]

YD is a 'broad church' and a completely web-based set of divers (no sub's to pay!), and we welcome and accept divers from ANY recognised diver training agency or school from any part of the globe. [NB: Please don't attempt the old 'PADI vs BSAC' chestnut of an argument here, as it's been done to death and will get removed.]

We also welcome divers at any stage in their diving 'career' and development: from the 'newbie' and 'novice', the recreational diver, through to the technical diver and the Rebreather user - we even welcome the Commercial Diver too!

All we ask is that you post in a courteous, friendly, and thoughtful manner - any 'trolls' or 'flaming' will be removed straight away. You'll appreciate that we reserve the right to edit, move, remove, delete or alter any post or thread which we might feel is not in or reflect the best interests of YD. That said, we are not, by any stretch of the imagination, a censorious or overly moderated board. Bottom-line: we're all adults, so please act like one

Being as we are all (mostly) adults and should be largely self-policing - the language at times can be a little Anglo-Saxon and 'lower-decks', but we try and keep this to a minimum and you are at perfectly liberty to report, anonymously, any post you see to any of the Moderators on the board (i.e. only the Mods will know it's been sent and by whom).

Rather than go into realms of 'Dos and Don'ts' and 'Can and Can'ts' - please take some time to have a good look around the boards, judge the 'House Style', get to know us - and ENJOY!

Welcome aboard!

Jay, Andy2Tanx, Bren, And, Moray & Daz

Forum Rules

We'd like everyone to get the most out of our discussions and have put together some tips and rules to help ensure that the forums remain enjoyable for everyone.

Think before you write.

*
Firstly, please view THIS

* Please do an Introduction to the boards
As soon as you can, and as a new member courtesy, please do an introduction to the other board members. This will allow others to get a better idea of with whom they are exchanging ideas, opinions, views, advice and banter on the boards. It will also allow you to become readily more recognisable and 'gell' more quickly. It also helps when folks are looking for new buddies to know with whom they are dealing in terms of experience etc. And please try and choose a log-in name which does not closely resemble one already in use - if you do, we may ask you to change it and choose another to avoid confusion on the boards. Weclome to YD!

* Be kind to each other!
It is easy to forget that you are dealing with real people when you are typing away. Remember that people may be hurt by unpleasant remarks so be polite and try to keep criticism constructive. Ask yourself if you would say what you are about to write to somebody’s face? If not, do not post it.

* No duplicate posting!
Only under very rare circumstances, e.g. for a recognised charity or worthy cause, and only then with the Admin's permission, will members be allowed to make a duplicate post, i.e. the same post/thread in more than one forum.
Only post your message once and on the most appropriate board.

* Posts being moved.
On occasion, the Admins/Mods might deem it necessary to move your post/thread to another, more appropriate forum if they feel that you have (for whatever reason) misplaced a post/thread in the wrong place. If you'd like to find out why, please PM the Mods to ask why a post/thread has been moved - please do not, as has happened in the past, seek to open a spirited "Why has my post been moved?!" rant on the forums. This approach will not help your case and is not appreciated by the Admins or other board members.

* Posts/threads being merge.
From time to time, we will merge threads and posts which are patently on the same or similar subjects - this allows those doing searches for a given topic to locate them in the same place and not scattered all over the boards. It also allows readers to see the same topic in one thread for the same reason. Before posting on any given topic, please so a quick search, using key words, for the topic to make sure that it is not already 'live and in play'. If you think you're thread's been either moved or merged, simply click on your own name and choose 'View Public Profile', then click on the 'Show all Posts by [your name]' and you'll find your post or thread.

* Watch the tone of contributions.
It can be difficult to judge the tone of a contribution so think carefully about whether somebody is trying to be sarcastic or amusing before you explode in righteous indignation over a post. Using emoticons such as : ) and ; ) can help you avoid causing such confusion yourself.

* Write clearly and well.
Remember that people from all around the world will be reading your post so keep your language as clear as you can, be sensitive to regional variations in the use of English and patient with other contributors who may be learning the language. Try to minimize spelling errors, keep your message short, and avoid writing in capitals because it looks like you are shouting and is also quite difficult to read on screen. Use descriptive subject lines so that you give people with limited time enough information to decide if they want to read further.

* Don't give out personal information - unless you're 100% happy to whom your are sending it.
We advise that you never reveal any personal information about yourself or anyone else (for example: telephone number, postal address or email address) unless, again you are 100% happy to whom it is being sent. Conversely, and in addition, please keep any and all personal issues off the forums. If, for example, for ANY reason you have had or are in dispute with any other YD member(s) or any non-member 3rd parties, please DO NOT bring that detail or debate on to this, a public forum.

If you're intending to post as a troll, or simply to annoy or cause a ruck, don't bother: your posts will be deleted and you will be removed from the boards.

Don't annoy people with commercial messages, product placement or attempts at advertising - it is inappropriate and will not be appreciated.

If you find an article offensive, you can complain to the YD Admins/Mods (Jay, Andy2Tanx, Bren, And, Moray and Daz) and we will investigate and may remove the offending post and take any necessary or appropriate action against persistent offenders.

While wishing to allow open discussion in our forums, and we do allow adult and perhaps 'fruity' comments and language to go largely untouched, YD reserves the right to take action against individual posts and users' accounts if we feel a user is posting objectionable content.

We won't tolerate unlawful, defamatory, misleading (deliberately or otherwise) harassing, abusive, threatening, harmful, obscene, profane, racially offensive or other objectionable material outside the context of a serious discussion about diving and its more social aspects.

The views expressed in the YD Forums do not necessarily represent the views of the owners and Admins of YD.

Unless where expressly certified as being, YD is not affiliated with the opinions or content, nor parties responsible for the pages and content displayed within these and its affiliated forums.
