Paul,

Go and read this thread entire, all your queries are answered therein. I'm not going bandy petulant posts with you on the subject any longer. Matter closed.

Stuff gets moved, it gets organised, merged, deleted whatever. This may not always be what you wanted and so your first action should be to PM the moderator who did it or to PM Bren if you don't know who did it.

That way it can be sorted behind the scenes and concluded amicably. To try and start some thread pronouncing your indignation gives the moderators very little room to manouvre and really only forces us to defend ourselves.

The one thing to bear in mind is that it is done for YOUR benefit. I would like nothing better than to ignore 80% of the posts on here but, as I reluctantly agreed to the job, I do it as I see fit, with a sense of fairness and impartiality, and AFAIAC, all the other moderators do the same.

Can we now get back to normal, pick up the teddys and get on with talking about diving

Andy

No, still doesn't change the fact the moderators occassionally take it upon themselves to change things, that maybe the original poster did not want changing.
I wanted two seperate threads. I posted two seperate threads. Someone else started a thread about things being moved. I just sent a brief message that it had happened to my posts too.

I do think that Moderators do a good job, does that give them the right? to not respect the wishes of the original poster.

I am not throwing teddy out of the pram, it would be a chicken anyway, but I wished my views to be read by all on the forum.

Personally I don't see any benefit. Since the forums were created I've given up using the forum structure and just use the New Posts function to browse. It's much easier. The only problem is if the thread is renamed in which case I occasionally lose my 'subscription'

Obvioulsy I understand that it's not my forum and I am one of many and you can do whatever you want etc etc but I thought that if you knew how I browsed the forum it would help.

Laters,
Janos

Hi Paul

I've looked through the thread and I have to say that it looks quite logical to me. There are a few posts at the beginning wishing Adrian the best and then the thread with the congratulations straight after. Whilst I don't see the reason for re splitting the thread I will compromise if you like and change the title so Adrian doesn't miss it when he comes back after his honeymoon and also so the other YD members can add their messages of goodwill, which is the real purpose of the thread isn't it? Please PM me and we will sort this out.

Andy

Hi Janos

You joined in March 2003. If you had pressed new posts when you first joined you would have been greeted with ...... nothing. Yet you joined, probably due to the fact that the forums have been organised and you saw info you liked and wanted to contribute, same reason I joined. Thats what I mean.

As I said before, sometimes its not quite how you intended as we all read things in a different way, but you can't on the one hand say we do a good job, and then on the other say please don't change anything. That doesn't make any sense

If you think we have made a mistake then a PM is much more effective than a proclamation to the world that we are 'aliens' and out to get you

Andy

Hi And,

I don't think there was a New Posts function when I joined - it was different software then

I think that you as Mods need to balance the needs of attracting potential new members without alienating ( ) the more 'established' members of the forum.

I think the latter would prefer the site run with as little 'interference' (sorry can't think of a better word - not meant to be insulting) as possible from the Admins and Mods, ie they don't want change.

Good luck!

Janos

PS - Regarding Members Services & Business - IMHO this should be people who make a profit out of what they do. If someone posts up saying that they are going to get X widgets and is anyone interested in splitting the postage then it shouldn't automatically be moved.
