Appropriate Conduct On YD

Things have been going a little crazy on a lot of web boards over the past few weeks and the excitement seems to be infectious. While I am sure we all want to benefit from an open forum group, it has been brought to my attention that some posts are bordering on libellous and could, if it ever got so far, leave Yorkshire Divers (and me as administrator) neck deep in the brown stuff.

I would ask that:

1. We treat each other and others in the diving community with due respect while on these forums
2. We stick to posting FACTS and not suppositions that may / may not be true
3. We do NOT target individuals / companies for abuse NO MATTER HOW AGGREIVED WE MAY FEEL!!

I don't want to have to spend all day editing / deleting posts or threads so can we all please play ball and talk about our favourite subject - DIVING

So make it a hard and fast rule Jay, that anyone not abiding by these simple rules will be removed from the forum. We have had some good posts put on here by people who actually do go diving. Up to now the arrogant and overly opinionated have in the main left us alone. Don't let them on if they don't wanna play by our rules. You know I'll back you up to the hilt on this...

We already have the rules Andy - its just a re-iteration of their meaning and impact. All moderators have the power to edit / delete posts and I can ban members permanently if necessary. Lets hope it doesn't come to that with anyone as I agree, we have a superb bunch of people on board.

Good points guys. Let's keep the spirit of YD well and truly alive! It looked like it was in danger of being turned into a circus by the increasing population who are crossing over from another forum.

Now, back to diving!!

I can confirm that I will NEVER let that happen. All new members to Yorkshire Divers are, of course, most welcome.

I'm also pleased that Heads Up has taken the opportunity to firm up the thinking behind whats considered acceptable on YD. I'm sure we all read postings on many open forums that sometimes we don't particularly agree with. The manner in which he/she expresses their views is important and can easily be misinterpreted, and understandably tempers flare Some of the comments and flame wars on other Diver related &nbsp;Open forums have sadly only illustrated to me how divided the diving community can become. &nbsp;Any Moderators role is a position of responsibilty, I agree that personal insults and allegations should not be displayed on forums.
Having said that it is apparent to me that on some of the other Diving Forums ( other than YD) Moderators have edited deleted posts purely because they don't subscribe to a particular view,clearly Censorship rather than moderation.
I look forward to some excellent exchange of views.

How refreshing to find a forum where members actually post fairly civil responses.

Good point - wouldn't they be then liable for slander/defamation of character, whatever the correct term is south of the border? &nbsp;I seem to think so, but there is also every chance I'm wrong!!

You'll have better and more important things to do than that. &nbsp;Also, if someone is removed from the boards, are they removed for a certain length of time - like a suspension so to speak? &nbsp;Or will they be removed for good? &nbsp;Or does that depend on the 'crime'? &nbsp;I would put a smiley emoticon here, but I can't make them work!

Suspension - probably a month. Not got a strict policy

Ban - lifetime, no questions asked.
