Smile Manta Reels

Hello

I'm looking to purchase a good quality reel i have been looking at the Manta reel range, appears to be well built but this comes with a price. If you have got one of these i would like your feedback. I would be using it for SMB and wreck work.

I use mine for SMB and it's ok for that. I have a Kent Reels big job for wreck stuff which was cheaper than the Manta.

I agree with Tim, I looked at the Manta reels when I wanted another one and thought they were too expensive. I also bought a Kent Tooling reel infact I bought two

Following Chasey's sage advice in another thread, I bought one of these for £13. It's great as an SMB reel and if I lose it, it's cost me £13 and I'll get another.

Make sure to cut that handle down to size though

Personally I would go for one of these as a blob reel from NAS:

Less than 40 quid and well built with 65m of line and a telescopic handle for cold water use.

Yep I am sorry to say thats the one I use and with a little modification (cut the handle down to 25mm long) its a great throw away reel. I am on number 3

However be warned, On the third one I bought (from Ebay) the gap between the spool and the handle was much larger than on my previous two and the ratchet arm didn't lock easily into place.

10min's with a file and a flat bottom drill brought it up to the speck of my previous two and I am happy again but it would appear batch build quality of these £13.00 reels is not up to much

I have tried £80 Manta reels Custom divers £125 reels and friction reels and I keep going back to this cheep crap one that works great.

I id see a nice looking Narked @ 90 reel on his site. Its action looks very similar to my reel but its much better built. Its only 50m of line (I think) but it did look pretty good.

EDIT: WOZ JUST POSTED A PIC OF THIS REEL ABOVE,

Role on Kent tooling's SS ratchet reel my one is just toooooo cheap dive gear should be much more expensive than this .

ATB

got two mantas large & small and a kent tooling, all ex reels, mainly use the manta for dsmb (love it),kent for wreck work & back up, had no probs in the last 3 yrs, unlike the cheep reel that flew to bit`s when deploying a blob.
