Folks,

This may be a sillly question, but some of the threads have symbols next to them (like thumbs up, unhappy or red face).

How do these get assigned? ... are they assigned by a forum moderator? If so on what basis?

When you post a new thread you can choose the symbol that appears next to it. It's not a moderator thing.

They are simply put there by the author of the first post. When you click on 'New Thread' you'll find a selection of icons to choose from below the main dialogue box. They are there for replies too, but it's the one that is attached to the first post that appears with the thread title.
