I agree that 3rd party insurance is important but has anyone ever heard of a situation where it was actually used? We discussed this in our club committee a while ago with regards to admitting non-BSAC divers. In the end, we decided to make them join BSAC as, being students, it's dirt cheap anyway and our university demands that we have the cover. If we weren't a university club (with the student discount), would it be a major issue to not have this insurance?

I can't say That I've heard of it being used but without doubt it has. Personally I think you'd be crazy to dive without it espaecially considering the litigation crazed country we're becoming. Chances are you'll never need it but what if...
If anyone dives with our club one of the pre-requsites are that they have this insurance, not only to protect them but to protect us.

cheers

Nick

Q. Why did the razorbill raise her bill?

A. So the sea urchin could see her chin!

I have 3rd party insurance through Divemaster insurance, I think it's about £22 for a year. Not a lot really!

They also do holiday insurance, one off trips or yearly multiple use.

They're very good, I'm using them for the Red Sea next week. £16 for 9 days and they cover you to 50m on air and 75 on trimix.

Insurance problems

If you have a life insurance policy, did you tell your insurers that you are a diver?. They don't like to find out when its too late.

AIUI, it has been used in defence many times.

Yes, two occasions (not me, but members of my club):-

1. stopline overshot whilst towing RIB, reversed and skeg put crease in bonnet of car behind .... settled in full

2. leaving divesite, two sets of dive gear run over..... settled in full

Don't have any experience of it being used for a "wet" incident.

Cheers, Paul
