| For masks, forget all about the make... get one that fits... For other stuff, there will be a minimum of 1 more opinion than there are divers present regarding any piece of kit... I think you should get... Andrew |

| Brands are a bit confusing. The Diver-Rite Nitek Duo is really an Apeks Quantum but in truth both are really a Seiko. There is a big factory in Italy that makes all the world's fins for everyone.... There is a big factory in China that makes all the world's masks for everyone.... Unless you care about brand image I wouldn't get too bothered... Chris

For other stuff, there will be a minimum of 1 more opinion than there are divers present regarding any piece of kit... Totally right about the mask. As you are just starting out wait until you have done a little bit more before you shell out loads on loads of gear. Start off with a mask, snorkel and fins and then carry on. If you buy your gear in stages it means that you have a chance to get used to each new piece of kit before moving on to the next one. Also the type of gear you will want will depend on the type of diving you are mostly going to be doing so don't rush in... |

| Another tip is buy second hand. Buy from a reputable source, people on here will be able to help you out on that. You'll get into diving and then want to change a few things. Changing second hand stuff, which you can punt on (on Ebay or here) for the same price as you bought them for, will be useful. Dave C |

| Buy a mask that fits your face i bought an expensive one on recomendation and it's shite sits in the bottom of my bag as a spare i then tried a cheapo one and i'd kill to find another i love it. Fins try a few out, places like capernwray have demo fins you can borrow for a dive thats how i fell in love with force fins pm me your foot size i may have a pair of fins that'll fit you for a donation to RNLI or chris hall
