| For what it's worth, I'm one of the Xbox-Linux folks, and spend quite a lot of time 'modding' xboxes for people. I often get mailed Xboxes for modding - I'll quite happily fit chips, though I tend to steer clear of softmods, because I find they *can* be quite fragile. Plus MS sometimes break them by making some games force-upgrade the dashboard to a version where the softmod no longer works. Another option is a type of 'hardmod' that involves soldering a pair of tiny links on the motherboard shut, which allows you to reprogram the onboard chip. The legal stuff I'm involved with means I will only flash it with a linux-loading bios, but you can actually flash the onboard chip with any bios you want, so you can get the same functionality as with a modchip (except that you can't turn it off, so no more Xbox Live for you!) If anyone is interested, let me know, and I'll explain what I do. (Note, I do it for free. Either drop round, if you're near Bracknell, or mail it if you arent) David |
