I used to play, many years ago. But then the drink and drugs and the high livin' got to me, and I had to retire, a pale shadow of my former self.

Used to play loads....Wish drugs and drink had caused my demise but in actual fact it was just a shortage of time. I haven't played in years....

Not for many years, bur recently got Chessmaster 9000 to start playing again. Problem is it beats me even on a low level. Enjoying the challenge.

Slight hijack here maybe, sorry.

My father taught be to play many years ago and when we get the time we still play from time to time.

Does anyone know any good/easy chess software that he could use on the pc they have?

Would need to be very easy to launch the game as he has little confidence in his pc skills as he is in his 80s.

Cheers,

David.

Alternatively, what about a dedicated chess computer like the ones made by Novag ? e.g. here

Thanks for the suggestion Mal, Unfortunately, he had one of these but gave it to my nephew as he started struggling to use it properly due to shakey hands. His hearing isn't as good either so he would miss the beeps and things....

I am really after something fairly 'chunky' on a monitor so its all 'virtual'.

Cheers,

David.

I play chess on ICC quite badly ...

I terms of chess software there's lots and lots out there.

Fritz for the PC and Shredder on PC and Mac.

You can play the shredder engine online for free at

Shredder Computer Chess Download - Play chess online with Shredder

My handle on ICC is gavster
