| Why this Sub-Forum is Here. As the description says, the idea of this forum is to allow people to post their incidents to allow others to learn from them. The sort of posts that belong in here are Garf's Markgraf incident, Janos' inadvertant pentration of a wreck, or something as simple as my dive last year where I dropped a 10kg bag of scallops and made a rapid ascent from 10m because I was now incredibly bouyant. The idea is that people can post here their mistakes, mishaps, things they have witnessed personally (not 3rd hand) without fear of ridicule. People need to post honestly and those who comment must not put the original poster down. By all means provide positive criticism about how you would have done things differently, and importantly. If people don't want to face the music themselves, you can send a PM to me with the details and I will anonomise the post before putting it onto the forum. This forum can only work with your input so please give it a go, especially in the quiet dive period (for many) and maybe people can learn from your mistakes.

| Gloc I appreciate what you're doing here and would love to post but having been flamed and ridiculed so hard in the past for some of the dives I have done I simply wouldn't do it. I know the words are there " without fear of ridicule" and that this is only a website but unfortunately a small group of members seem to act as the dive police (pardon the pun mate). Now, I simply keep my anicdotes for diving with others as lessons I hope they learn from me rather than experiencing for themselves.

There is nothing in the dive industry, as a whole, which allows people to document mistakes they have made in the past which will allow others to learn from them. In the Mil Aviation world we have a fortnightly newletter which comes out detailing mistakes which people have made. It took some time for the mindset to change and thereby allow people to post, hopefully YD can rise to the same challenge.

I think the key thing that stops people being criticised in this environment is being open and honest about what went wrong. It is no use posting up an incident or near miss but not taking anything from it, or allowing debate over it. Criticism or suggestions of how something may have been done differently are exactly what is required, without it getting personal, of course. If that doesn't happen, all you have are reports that others may read and not even understand where it was the incident started or what they could do to avoid the same happening to them. Guys like Garf and Janos were big enough to stand up and face this in the knowledge that it would help others. Being protective of ego won't, let's face it, you wouldn't post in this section if everything went wonderfully!
