Yes. Quite right.

That is what I eventually found out.

I had to 'self' learned that depending where my dump valve was on my suit, (my first had a wrist dump, my second a shoulder), or how I help my arm I would either loose buyonacy, or not to be able to dump effectively enough.

I suppose the point I wanted to make was that there is a learning curve, even in the skills mentioned when you are going from wet to dry.
From Membreane Dry, to Neoprene Dry., and its better to find what the limitations, if any, there are when these skills are translated to a dry suit

tip top!

I have to say thats just a tip top story, i love these diving tales! it sounds like i learned to dive about the same time (stab jacket - a great james bond image of diving) I Just have to support all thats said, but for me its the point that many years later we have the internet, forums and much safer, more proven practice - more available and at a reasonable cost (mmmm, not sure about the cost bit..) but still, long live feet up drysuit dives - what a hoot!
