I have a nozzle thing that I am supposed to attach to my drysuit feed and position so that it puts the air in the blob without being attached to the blob itself. I haven't tried it yet though...

If you ever do, let me know how you get on. The other thing I've thought about trying is inflating the blob from my wing - it seems to make sense to dump air from your wing into the blob to even things up, buoyancy-wise.

On my nitrox course, my instructor told me to inflate the smb using the bubbles from my reg. I did it during the course, but immediately afterwards abandoned the technique as I didn't want the blob that close to my face.

So many methods to try.....

I thought that, till I actually got one. Easy to use and I don't see how you could get it stuck to the hose. Getting the hose back on the valve can take a bit of practice, mind. Having said that, as you are ascending from blob deployment - does it matter if the drysuit hose stays detatched?

Not really unless you have a problem with your wing or something, and also you might forget its off and push the button to put some air in your suit and get a wet chest, very similar to what I did last week

Kirstie if you want to try a Dry suit inflate one, you can borrow mine if you want?

Dan

Thanks, Dan, I might just take you up on that. Somewhere out there, there has to be a method that suits me!

Here's the easiest method.

1 Hand blob and reel to trainee

2 Indicate it's their turn to deploy

3 Watch critically

4 Provide positive feedback on surface after dive (If you get picked up)

5 Berate traineee for complete uselessness (If not picked up)

it doesn't quite work like that...there's no locking mechanism on the blob fill valve so when you push the suit-inflate hose onto it, the air goes into the blob, but you aren't locked on. As soon as you let go, the blob detaches itself and sails up to the surface all nicely red and stiff

I used to have an SMB like this until some fatherless person nicked it from me at Horsea - it was really easy to use.

Cheers, Chris

Dangerous Dan has very kindly offered to let me have a go with his, so we'll see what sort of a dog's breakfast I can make of it
