| Thanks for that Sixsquid - a sobering tale... One point that struck me - were the legs of your drysuit too long rather than the boot being a loose fit? I've seen some in drysuits (even at my early stage) where the legs seem to have a little too much slack for safety. |

I feel my drysuit fits me well and gives me room to move and layer for the winter. I wear both 4th Element and Weezle during winter. The boots seem a perfect fit and the leg length suitable to be able to move (just) with all the winter layers. But ..... we had a very hot summer last year (anyone remember that?) and, that day, I dived with only 4th Element Xerotherm rather than my Weezle. I thought I'd successfully done that before but I must have been wrong. I'm pretty sure that's why air filled my boots, and coupled with finning hard, pushed the boots right off. I was probably wearing minimal socks too. Of course the onset of other probs caused the real trauma but take away control and other things are a lot harder to deal with

I've not had the problem since always wearing my Weezle and thick socks. I nearly lost a dSMB & reel ........ but that's another story

| I am glad it all worked out for your Sixy, a scary day I am sure. Well done for getting back in the water so soon afterwards. I always hated the feeling of air in my feet. I never lost my fins the way you did, but felt too many times like I was about to. So, I got dry socks and Rock Boots - end of problem. I can now fin head down and feet up with no issues. Glad your OK, and thanks for posting. It is a common problem I am sure. EDIT: Just as well it was a male buddy. If it had have been a woman and you shouted at her to tow you there would need to be a discussion. But a bloke will just do what he is told when a woman shouts at him .

although that dive was swiftly aborted. You won't catch me shore diving pebbly beaches with quick drop offs unless there's no sign of breaking water. Not wanting to begin a debate but I feel happier diving dark, cenotes/caves (within my limitations) where I am, hopefully, prepared for eventualities and not at the mercy of a changing and strong sea. Bearing in mind I'm not looking to dive caves with strong currents or flooding resurgences.I would rather control my environment than have my environment control me (and I'm clearly a weakling )Quote:
