By bends / incidents - I mean problems with dives / missed stops / f*ck ups as opposed to "undeserved hits" whatever the hell that means.
I don't suppose they did know Mark's lack of build up dives at the time - and you're right assumptions are the mother of all.....
We all do it - last time I went diving with Janos - it was the first time I'd done a serious sea dive with him and I didn't think to ask whether he was dived up / speed of deep stops etc. We did work out a careful gas / deco / run time plans and the dive went great and was an absolute pleasure.
You can't mitigate against everything - it's diving - a certain element of risk is part of the sport - but much of what is going on is blatantly obvious and avoidable IMO.

To talk about a GUE Instructor getting bent as some sort of "trophy" is IMO really unhelpful. That stigmatises that person and makes it harder for them to talk about it. The person concerned has been getting minor "undeserved" skin bends from a variety of profiles with extremely conservative deco. The problem comes and goes and has been investigated and dealt with in an extremely sensible and thorough fashion. Does you claiming it as a "scalp" make it easier or harder for that person to talk about it somehwere like YD where that information might have been of benefit to someone?

I would suggest that this is the old them and us thinking that we need to be rid of and start thinking in terms of just "us"

The debates of the last week have got us chimps talking in more detail about stuff as well - rather than as you say - just assuming we'll work it out on the hoof - that's a good thing yeah?

Zactly and the way we start doing this is to leave agency's out of any discussion about these incidents.

l would suggest that we make it a forum rule that if anyone posts in the "l learnt about diving from....." forum or related threads that we leave agencys out of the discussion.

Agreed! I will amend the guidelines accordingly.

I have re-opened this thread for a couple of reasons:

1. It may appear that I have a GUE bias. I do but not in this thread. I am trying to do my job as a MOD, and specifically incharge of this sub-forum. When I set this sub-forum up I said that stone throwing would not be allowed, unfortunately there has been quite a lot of this recently and I have been remiss in my duties in sorting this out.

2. I personally think the major issues of this incident have been highlighted for all to see, however, others think there are further places to explore. Fine but if there is any more name calling or negative criticism, those posts will be deleted. You can explore them elsewhere but the ILADFT threads are not the place for that.
