So, we had done a fantastic early morning dive at Daedalus. The guide had managed to get us hitting the water right on top of around 6/7 Hammerheads at about 15 metres so that was a pretty good start. Down to 100bar so time to get away from the reef edge and get the old DSMB up. Nice and slow, no dramas. At around 6m I thought it would be hilarious to go all bug-eyed, make the shark gesture and frantically point behind my buddy. Anyway, he shat himself, went all paranoid which I thought was great. Surface and the RIB was around 100 metres away picking up another pair so we just bobbed around so we had a good laugh about my "joke". RIB came over and the guide was gesturing frantically behind us and yelling for us to swim towards the boat. Yeah, right. You can't get me with that one. Anyway, we swam towards the RIB nice and leisurely and I wondered why the other divers were getting a little frantic too and staring just behind us. You know when you don't want to turn round but you feel you should......Yeah, it was a bit like that. Anyway, I had a glance and, whilst I had seen Oceanic Whitetips on TV and in magazines I didn't ever think I would see one less than a fin stroke away. My mind went completely blank. You have never seen anyone panic as much as I did. Dragged onto the boat and my heart was pounding. Lairy bugger bumped the boat twice and we got a very good look at him, circled three times and he was away. So, moral of the story, never do the old "SHARK" mickey-take. You never know what is around the corner.

Was at Daedalus last September. The OWT was a little unexpected to say the least - even the dive guides said afterwards they don't usually appear that early.

I'm going back in sept this year - Brothers and Daedulus etc with Blue O two. I had a great dive with OWT's at elphinstone in Dec 05 - 3 of them. Thanks Phil

Yeah, we did Brothers, Daedalus and Elphinstone. Daedalus was where all the action was ! Mind you, had some Hammerheads and a Thresher shark at Brothers but we had Daedalus to ourselves for 2 days and saw sharks on every dive & a Manta on the last dive. Went on to Elphinstone and that was very crowded in comparison. First in the water but the currents were crazy, crazy.
