Actually - that would be the unluckiest thing in the world - avoid tombstoning by jumping off devils bridge and not hitting the bottom, only to be speared by some brainless cock with a speargun.

Just as well he had the twin twelves if he had to wait for the underwater search unit to come (from Preston, in a big truck that does 56 mph max) and unspear him from an underwater rock.

But I think it's really April 1. Can a speargun really penetrate rock?

I can categorically state not

I once fired mine at a fish, whilst spearfishing in France (whilst freediving I hasten to add), missed entirely, the spear itself hit a rock and then richocheted off and nearly hit me on the way back (they have a line attached to the back of the spear so you don't lose it when you fire it).

It would have probably just bounced off me with the inertia it had, but it was mighty scary!

Spearguns are banned at Devils Bridge. So did the Plod charge him?
There are Trout in the River, or there was in 1973 when I dived there....

It all sounds a bit too far fetched for me...
Surely word of this would have got around before DIVE magazine published anything?
