Ah....now I know what a carabiner is, as I carry plenty of them! I like to use the locking ones for attaching equipment though (Climbing style)

Generally accepted in the form of the top clip but as you can see the bottom one is just as guilty.

If the line can slide out or another slide in to cause entanglement it fits the bill

However, the top version definitely have their uses, and I would argue that a good one is well rigid and will not easily shunt open

Sorry, my bad. I knew I'd put the wrong thing up, but then something came up at work, and I wasn't able to correct it straight away. Its like the ones pictured

Great post. Rather send it up early and avert grief than wish you had done so after the fact.

I think that the drop bottle idea is a good one for my next kit addition......

Good photos Sixy, its easy to recognise how a line could inadvertently snap itself in to 'suicide' clips/carabiners, however can everyone (I know most of you know this but some may not) see how easy it is for a line to 'unhook' itself from the clip when you don't want it to?

Edit: If any new 'commies' are in attendance, note that the top clip is almost identical to a crane hook up-side down. So, when using a crane with this so-called 'safety' hook - it really isn't a 100% positively safe hook at all. Sorry for the minor high-jacking of this thread - which began with a top post Steve - greened.

I had a call yesterday telling me that my spare 12L is tested and O2 clean now. I think I'm sorted for regs. Just need a buoy / float / big container, a bit of rope... and a nice fill!

A friendly skipper gave me one he had spare

I have a hula hoop on mine, and a 9m rope. Haivng discussed this with a few skippers, it seems to be the set-up of choice. They can drop the hoop over the DSMB's so no need to attached it, and it still drops close to the diver.

    I'll post a pic later.

That sounds good! Much easier than the 'clipping to the line' idea. Cheers for the tips!

(Can't green you for it though Scubes. Loved you too recently)
