Question YBOD Moderations? What have YOU Done?

OK folks, having had my unit for about 30 dives now, I'm thinking about some mods. Looking at proably changing the harness for a BP (partly to get rid of some excess strappage, and secondly to take some weight off), probably gonna ditch the auto-air and replace with a std inflator and rig a necklaced 2nd stage off the dil bar, and add a waist mounted (will experiment with this) independant suit inflation, to save a bit on the onboard dil usage. And get some neoprene hose protectors.

What mods have other people done, poll (multi choice) above. Anything I've not included, please feel free to detail....

Mods so far.
TX40 with shutoff on the Oxygen.
Argon on Metalsub bracket.
Bob-o-matic ADV with shutoff.
Integrated weights (velco on pockets zip tied up).
Chest strap removed.
Big front pocket (I like pockets).
EPRLB so built into the harness it will probably never come off now.
Another Metalsub bracket originally for 300/3L but now a big canister torch.

Mods to come (bits already purchased)
Beanie D-ring replacements for stages at the chest.
Bob DSV to breath the onboard DIL.

Promised
A clip to hold a real 2Kgs lump of lead to replace chucking a 2Kg shot bag on top of the scrubber.

I quite like the harness. It's probably least worst for my shape of body and my non-bendy shoulders. I can clamber in then tighten it all up.

Hello,

I have read somewhere that if you replace original harness, you can have a problem securing the lungs, can someone explaine me better this thing? Also how you have done it on yours! (if you have pics the better ) Beanie are you saying that the ADV started injecting gas , when it was not needed? Also I have read on Mad mole site that the flow stop just add more trouble than you gain as it has 4 more failer points! What all you think.

Regards

Pierre

From madmole site :

ADV Shutoff Valve

I fitted an Apeks Shut off valve inline with the ADV so I can disable it easily is there is a problem or free flow. Also this makes pressure testing the unit easier. I've since removed it due to comments by Dave Thompson, who pointed out that it provided no extra safety and was an extra 4 failure points

I think DT was refering to an additional number of O-Rings in the shutoff, compared to a direct fitting.

One thing I've read about the shutoff is that some people use the shut off so that they can have different diluents plumbed into the ADV and the manual inject. You can then chose the desired diluent by either opening the shut off and letting the ADV add it, or leaving it shut, and adding the other dil manually..

Hello,

How are the lungs attached to harness? Are these attached to waist band? Aldo do you have a website apart from mad mole on how this is done?

Pierre

Although I have a lot of time for Stephen (Diver Mole) I tend to count failure items not failure points in detail. A shut off valve either works or it doesn't - one point. I like having a shutoff valve on the ADV as it helps doing neg tests and as I have the ADV set a bit loose and it might freeflow or seep a bit diving - heck the Auto Air does that often enough. I have another shutoff on the oxygen second stage regulator and I've seen a diver without one dump most of their O2 when it got jammed somewhere with the purge pushed (Plymouth May 2004).
