YBOD backplates and harness

Have a pretty much standard YBOD and have read that one of the most common changes is to put a backplate and / or new harness on. What are the advantages / disadvantages of this and what do people recommend? I tarvel with my unit and weight is a serious consideration (don't want to have to wear my kit on the plane like I saw a bloke wearing his BCD at Sharm a few months back!). Dales diver is bringing out a box that may be lightweight and Woz makes an aluminium plate. Any thoughs anyone? Cheers

I've seen three conversions and I only liked one and that involved a terrific amount of work rebuilding the counterlungs.

I'm not tempted.

I actually quite like the 'put it on loose and pull to tighten it up' scheme although I might change the waist strap for something with a weight-belt style clip on it. It's not even common, just like changing the AutoAir get bandied around as 'most' get changed but most don't. It works, you don't ever use it, so why make grief for yourself?

Speaking to Woz about his new plate. Got one in aluminium which might just be the ticket. does it need an adaptor? Also what type of harness do you recommend? I saw Madmoles web site and he uses an aquatec. Also I'd like to put some weights on it. Woz had aslos got Narked at 60 backplate tail, but I'm nut sure it will fit,

Any thoughts?

Nick
