Trimix or Air in the wing?

Anyone else bothered to plumb in their suit inflation cyl to the wing on the YBOD?

I'm using 50 odd bar of trimix a dive and do use my wing a fair bit. I don't think I'm overweighted, 6lb on the box ,4lb round my waist and a 5mm compressed neoprene suit.

How much gas are you using on a 60-70m trimix dive?

With the extra hose, I could always just plug it in to the lung as well, for a swop to air on deco, or another bailout option. Any thoughts?

trimix or air in the wing

john,
i have the emergency .4 ltr cylinder fitted to the wing and i use it to inflate the wing on the surface,i only use the suit for buoyancy during the dive.
i would generally use 25 bar from a 3lt for a 70'ish dive of above 120 mins.
i would also use a spare cylinder for the pre-dive checks, the positive especially and save my mix for the dive.

cheers
barrie

trimix diving on the inspiration

this is a major problem when gas diving on the unit! why waste 50 bar of gas in the wing?

a simple solution is to use the o.4 litre wing inflation bottle filled with air for your wing, it hits the wing quicker and is easier to use in my opinion.

Myself and loads of guys and girls who i have taught have found this to be a ggreat way of reducing gas usage of gas dives.

if you would like to see any pictures email me privately..oh and if you would like to purchase a 0.4 litre bottle and inlet, let me know

cheers

matt

Wotcher John,
I use a 1.5l off-board for suit inflation- the in-board 3l, usually full of 10/52, cops for the wing - presumably this is what you're getting at. On the 70m stuff, the inboard does get a bit a of a battering, so I'm thinking of using one of the bailout tins for the wing. Either that or a 3l offboard instead of the 1.5.

Hi,
When i make deep dives or cave dives, i always use the gas of my bail-out for the suit and the wing. There is no difficult to connect or desconect them and you don't worry about how many gas you spend on it. Hope this help you.

Hi John,

I have a 2 litre on the side of the box for up to 60 metres and a 3 litre for sub 60 metres that I use for suit and wing inflation, I rarely use more than 10 bar of dil on a dive so it makes sense.

If you are gas diving the unit I would not recommend an air flush to reduce your deco obligation rather a flush with a weaker helium mix to avoid counter-diffusion problems.

Cheers

Dave

I only ever seem to use around 40 bar out of my suit inflation cyl(1.5)so I am going to plumb it into the wing as it will have the capacity ok.

What about filling those lift bags up? Not trimix thats for sure! Seem to be getting so concerned over gas management these days, when with the box you've all the gas in the world.

What happens with serious counter diffusion problems, I know its not a good idea to do massive jumps with the amount of he in your dil because gas is rushing out of you like no tomorrow. But what occurs, do your lungs turn inside out? your brain is reduced to green slime perhaps? I should probably know really being a trimix diver an all.
