Talking YBOD Ordered / Backplate Question

Hi All

Ordered my YBOD for Jan 05 Delivery & Mod 1 course & I'm planning mods already!.

Really keen to use my S/S backplate and harness as I'm not a fan of the AP back packs.

Does any one do a bolt kit for putting this together & does the case need to be drilled to fit the plate?

Secondly I was planning to mount my canister torch and suit bottle on the edge of my plate rather than the unit case to keep my profile as narrow as possible as I love crawling about inside wrecks? Any one using this config or is this likely to cause me problems.

I know some of you think I should go dive it first but I've flogged me twin 18's and I need something diving related to do whilst I'm waiting to do my training.

Come end of Jan I'll also be looking for some others to dive with that are putting some hours in on their boxes over the cold months at Stoney & Dotty

Any help much appreciated from the the no bubbles crew........

Thanks JB.....

Don't hurry. Despite being a total fan of backplates I think this mod is overrated. It's addressing the wrong problems. I'm not sure what the ideal harness is but I haven't seen it yet.

Snag. The wing will be squeezed by the box. I mount both of mine on the case and it still pushes the wing a bit. Remember the case is flat not rounded. Putting things further in will restrict the inflation space no end.

Bit far north for me. You need some real "Yorkshire Divers".
Do you have the course booked yet?

Thailand - I'd rather have 4 degrees in dotty (can you see my nose growing) ;-}

Nigel
Thanks for the config comments, I'll keep this in mind.
Course is booked with Jeff Keep of New Frontier Diving. A real long drive for me as he's Manchester based but his training is worth the drive.

Backplate

I have seen all sorts of backplates put on the unit.

I have a custom made plate weighing 2.5 kilos.

I replaced the harness because I do not like it for using stages, I have also seen people gas diving the unit who have torn the harness away from the bolts.

If Jeff is doing your course why not speak to him on his thoughts, you can always change it on the first day of the course, it doesn't take long.

I have off board cylinders on the side of my case and still manage to crawl around in tight spaces. I agree with Nigel's comments, better to mount anything on the case as opposed to the backplate.

Enjoy your course.

Thanks For the Feedback

Thanks for the feedback.

Already spoken to Jeff on his config (suit bottle on the case) but was interested in other approaches. If you do any training with Jeff you'll soon realise he's a man allways looking for the best answer not stuck with what he's done in the past.

Beanie - Stoney is where I go when her in doors puts the block on salty water or dotty (3.5 hour trip for me, but worth every minute).

Thanks again guys.........
