Inspiration advice needed.

I am looking at changing from OC to a rebreather, probably a second hand Inspiration.

I would like some advice on what to look for exactly, what to pay and what options to look for?

There is one on ebay at the moment that was also listed last week and received no bids, I'm sure most of you have seen it but it's here anyway;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/API-Inspiratio...QQcmdZViewItem

It says it is large wing an harness what size would this fit?, or should i say I'm 5.7'' and 11 stone will this be too large. What would be the ideal size? Also what are the additional patches for, would you rig them up from say two stages?

If so is this something to look at getting fitted?

Also it says that there is a 4th cell fitted is this read to go by the looks of things or will it need further modification?

Also is it worth fitting the VR3, i know some people are not happy with them but i am, never had a problem with it.

Sorry for so many questions all at once!

Ivon

To me the price seams in the right area @ 2.5k but not any more .Sizing you would be best to ring ap on monday to discuss sizes ,I'm 5'10 & 16 stone & i only need medium harness & lungs .I have borrowed a classic with large & it puts everything in the wrong place .Cann't comment on 2nd O2 .dil buttons as never used one with them .likewise with the vr3 although in the picture it looks a little heath robinson to me but then I have only seen the 4th cell fitted in a housing outside of the canister .

I am 6' 14 1/2 stone, The large harness only just fits me. If you can get the number of the scrubber lid, I think AP will give you the info on the RB.

Thanks for the replies, think this will be a little too big!

Any other info on what to look out for would be greatly appreciated.

Ivon,

A shortlist of things to look for when buying a second hand Inspiration:

- Overall wear and tear (obviously). Scratches on the yellow cover are not per se an issue as this is not functional (and the cover can be replaced fairly cheep), but give an impression on how the unit has been handeld.

- Can it do a negative and positive pressure test (see manual on how that is done)? A failure to pass a negative test does not mean per se that the unit is crap, but it will give you an impression.

- Do the handsets have backlights? (older units do not)

- Always assume that the O2 cells must be replaced when buying secondhand

- Size of the wing (there is a 16 kg and 22,5 kg wing, take the 22.5) and obviously size of the harnass. If you download the manual from the APD website, you will find the measuring instructions

-Does it have an ADV?

- Is the Air-II still in place and if not, has an alternative bailout regulator been installed?

- When you get your unit, clean it very thorougly (don't ask)

Rgs,
Niels

Hi.

Take a qualified YBOD diver with you they no how it should fit and what tests it needs, and can ask the right questions.

There are sets coming on the second hand market all day on the closed rebreather forum, most people who dive a YBOD have access to the forum.

Be prepared for a phenomenal amount of dross, far better off visiting www.rebreatherworld.com
