Water in Handset

I have a small amount of water in one of my handsets - had a good look around and can see no cracks.

Can I just unscrew the 8 screws, dry out the handset and carry on?

does anybody know what glue is used to reseal the handsets?

Chris
Hi chris you obviously have a leak which needs to be traced .
has the leak happened in sea water or fresh?
if you unscrew the clear lid all you will find is a huge lump of clear silicon sealant which will not allow you to drain the water.
this will have to be removed to gain access.
water in the handset can damage the on/off micro switch ,sea water will deffo cause this with time.
hairline cracks are not always easy to see.
having had hand sets leak the section were the hose enters the clear handset body via the gland is the first place to look .
if its still working get it sent off to AP for repair before it gets expensive.

As above send it to AP

To test for leaks in the hand set overpresurise the unit and spray the hand set with dilute liquid soap. The fault will bubble.

send it to AP valves for them to fix it, cost £170.00, beware though, they will not test it unless the O2 cells are from AP VAlves, cost me £300+ in the end.

Thumbs down

This appearsd to be a rotten bit of luck. Buy non AP approved cells, then they remove them and only test with ones they recomend or if you remove them they charge you for new ones also. Pants!!!

Depending on the age of your unit, they will also insist on changing/upgrading costing more money. There is nothing you can do about it, just bit bthe bullet and send it to AP.

Chris,

£400 hurts, but not as much as it would have had you had a catastrophic failure. I have just bought a classic inspo and am doing my course at the moment. All these cracked handsets worries me. There are several threads on RBW about this issue. I know mine was back at AP earlier this year for a service so I presume my handsets are fine. It seems beyond credibility that so many units could have suffered cracked handsets. It has to be a design fault and if that is the case surely Ap should be issueing a recall and fixing the problem for free.

I wonder if the freedom of information act could be used to get Ap to release the figures on the exact number of units that have suffered this problem?

Views anyone?

Alan

had 3 cracked handsets in my units 6 year life refused the same type of housing on the third failure and had both replaced over a year ago with different gland design have had no problems since, the ones giving me problems had a locknut on the end of the hose gland which appears to turn and crack the thin wall at the base of the handset body.
the replacements have a round end cable gland which obviously prevents this.
we take out a fair few inspo divers and it has been highlighted on the older classic units.
as for a recall? in your dreams!!!!!
Hope your enjoying your course.
