Inspo backplate & harness

Hi all,
During my MOD2 (the part I got to do anyway!), I had a lot of trouble clipping my bailouts to the D ring on the standard AP wing. As there isn't any other D rings on the harness back there, Rich suggested I might look at a backplate & harness.
Anyone done this before that can share their opinions/thoughts?

l would think that most people diving an inspo eventually change the crap harness with the in-folding D rings to a standard backplate and harness,

l persevered for over a year then changed to an Agir 5mm backplate, as recommended by Richie Stevenson, l wish l'd done it sooner.

Nackers sells an adaptor system from DSS that might be worth a look. If I had any money I'd have got one for mine.

Will be as easy as it can be to do this I suspect, obviously not as cheap as it can be to get a bit of M8, but a better solution.

Check out Pierre Farrugia (I think it was him that did it) on RBW, there's an article on precisely that.

I have a Dive Rite SS plate and transplate harness.
Had to change the top bolt for a slightly longer one.
Very comfortable, couple of Kg weight off the belt too.

Yep, found that: Inspiration Backplate Conversion - Rebreather World
Cheers Digs, I'll see what else I can find. He uses a CD backplate but has had to cut a section out for the manifold.

Yep, Phil's solution means you won't need to cut a section out of the manifold, the plates are thick enough that they are above the bump as it were, so you have a flat surface to put the plate onto.

Personally the hassle of cutting stainless steel which is tough as old arseholes and the DSS kit, I'd be on the phone to Phil tomorrow

I just bolted my old OMS backplate to the case using about £1.50 worth of stainless steel bolts and washers from the local hardware store. No need for cutting anything or adaptors just used a nut as a spacer to take the strain off ridge in the case. Use some big 'penny' washers under the bolt heads to spread the load.

I was using a stainless steel plate on the box after about a month as i found the AP harness a pain untill i switch to my ST/ST cadges, all i done was put a couple of nylon washers to take up the height of the ridge and a longer bolt.

If you need any thing give me a call and i will put some in the post for you

John
