Ali or steel stages

Hi, just finishing off the practical side of my MOD2 combined with Open circuit Trimix. Very good course and learned a lot of new stuff on how to use my unit.
Anyway to the point. I have tried out 7L, 10L and 12L ali stages. 7L is not enough for the types of diving I want to do, however there seams to be some disagreement between ali and steel stages.

1. Ali - Almost neutral and some can be removed, no removal of weight.
2. Steel - heavier but weight can be removed to compensate. Difficult to rmove stages during the dive due to bouancy, how ever some say "why do you want to remove them?".

My question there fore is what are others out there doing for stages at Mod2 level diving to 60m?

Trimix in an Ali 80 will make it float more so than usual. So you may want to add 1kg to offset it but no problem really.

I prefer Ali stages and have 2 Ali 80(207bar) and 1x7 ltr(232bar). Steels tend to throw you about a bit.

I'm sticking with what i know I've got steel 7's
people have there own opinions but Ali cylinders are very much in fashion at the moment ali80 is very popular.Do a search lots of long threads about ali vs steel.

Totally personal taste and style.

I like steels, they stay put below me and don't bob about like some demented puppy trying to get between me and my valves. Put trimix in an Ali and it thinks it's a boat.

Other people find them annoyingly negative and dread having to hand them off in case they just vanish downward into the gloom. They also describe them as streamlined but I haven't worked out what they mean by that yet.

RBW is all wimpy Yanks who say carry bailout in the bath.

Get a proper set of steels or look like a 1980 Florida Cave diver wannabe.
(Especially if you call them by a cu ft value not by WC)

That’s great thanks for all the replies. It's always helpful to get other experienced opinions. Thing I may just go for ali 7's.
