The outside sliders surely just put you into the menu, not switch off the handset.

Steve
hi steve

outside right slider and center slider together turn the handset off

when pushing the outside right hand slider with gloved hands you can catch the center slider at the same time turning the handset off

i know i was never told this on my course and lots of others have not been told as well {or forgot!}

7 years ago i nearly lost a pal to this with him going hypoxic as he had turned both handsets off we were diving in 0 viz in a river 8m deep at the time!
yes his fault for not looking but as the switches where still up but both handsets off i was puzzled so i had a play with my unit and found this out about the sliders {no talk of battery bounce back then!}

it has also happened to me on a 70m wreck last year squeezing into a hole i turned both handsets off with the sliders i heard the beep looked and turned them back on again {without calibrating}

and its happened a few times when getting in the water as well i don't think it was battery bounce that i had

Frankly any instructor I came across who didn't teach this on a course doesn't deserve to get paid.
who did you do your course with digger?
and was it covered on your course?

See quote above. I have no ticket. And frankly I don't feel like I've missed out on much. Instructors that can't tell you how a unit can silently kill you pretty quick sharp, and certainly cock up a deco shedule, and people are paying hundreds for the priviledge of this? Instructors who don't take 30 seconds (this is quite clearly a 30 second tip) that will save your life? Not worth the time of day, and not worth a penny to train you. I'm pretty horrified to be honest.

I think I'd rather take the cautious find out everything I can from everyone I can approach.

I still haven't found an Inspo instructor I would want to do a course with. Since Andy Hayhurst retired we've been left with a rather large hole for a top class instructor to fill, and I don't believe they're out there in the UK.

When I find an instructor that gives me confidence that at no stage in a 4 day course am I going to tell them something they didn't know before then I'm in. So far there's been plenty of instructors that I've spoken to who know less about a unit they're qualified to teach on than I do, and I've not dived the unit in question.

This is not a "Digger's a clever wanker" thread, more an "Instructors don't know as much as they should" thread. I know feck all about rebreathers, but there's so many instructors out there who know less than feck all.

Digs.

If anyone's still listening,
According to the manual,
using the centre and right white sliders to switch off the handsets does not kill the power totally (bit like a TV remote) so the handsets continue to drain 5 milli Amps on the batteries. Despite doing nothing.

Quite why they included this feature I don't know, it offers no benefits over using the central power switch.

I was taught it originally, and its in the manual. But in a moment of stress on my Mod 3 course recently I "rediscovered" it!

Martin Robson, Phill Short, Dave Cooper (now in france) and of course Dave Thompson who designed it in the first place....
