Thumbs up A brand new level...

Just recieved word today that my PADI AI status has been approved

After training through PADI, defecting to TDI, ditching the snorkel, sucking Helium and carrying my body weight in equipment and now turning to the Yellow Side, I decided that I fancied "sharing" a bit of my knowledge and experience so have started taking the necessary steps towards getting some technical teaching qualifications. I know an AI is in no way technical, but it's the first step towards getting a basic teaching status, which you need as a prerequisite to enrol on any of the TDI (for example) instructor courses.

It was quite a laugh donning a single tank and a snorkel again and seeing how much I'd forgotten. "I particularly like the way.......you didn't DIE!"

Hehehe...

Looking forward to the OWSI now.

Well done. I passed my AI a few weeks back and its nice to see that updated status on the web site.

I still can't get used to the "I really like the way you..." (bugger, what did they all do right? ) statement. I try and use anything but these days.

Good luck with the IDC, I have mine in four weeks time!

Thumbs up

Well in mate! Have some green.

And sound and refreshing reasons for completing it: "giving something back".

Assistant Instructor

Means I can teach a couple of PADI specialties, and assess some skills on the PADI Open Water course. It's just the first step....

Although my Doctor mate (ChrisP) always sniggers, because for him AI is Artificial Insemination!

Basically the PADI Professional progression goes like this:

DM - Dive Master
AI - Assistant Instructor
OWSI - Open Water Scuba Instructor (can train up to DM's)
MSDT - Master Scuba Diver Trainer (an OWSI with 5 specialty instrictor ratings and has certified 25 divers)
IDCS - Instructor Development Course Staff instructor (can also train AI's)
MI - Master Instructor (status only, need to have certified so many different divers to different levels)
CD - Course Director (can also train OWSI's and specialty instructors)

My favourite has always been P.R. Public Relations to normal people. Per Rectum to doctors

May I hastily add that I mean favourite abbreviation!!!

No need to excuse yourself, at first I though it was Artificial insemination
