| Does anyone know anywhere that's hiring or looking for help in Manchester, England? Does anyone know anywhere that's hiring or looking for help in Manchester, England? I'm moving to the UK to do postgraduate work in Maritime Archaeology this May. The MA program doesn't begin until October and so I'm looking for meaningful work in the Manchester Area from June-October. Ideally it would be business-related (economics) for a non-profit organization. I have experience in low-visibility technical diving as well as the dive resort industry (a year as Instructor/ Shop Manager/ Mate in Key Largo). I'm an Anthropology major/ Environmental Studies Minor expecting to graduate in May (3.7 GPA) from University. |

| Hi Scubalil Welcome to YD. It might be an idea to post an introduction so we might be able to help you a little better. You don't say where you are from and you might need some kind of work permit to be able to work in the UK, during your studies. Andy |

| Sorry to be disheartening but bad time of year, there are about 40billion students in Manchester all finishing for the summer and looking for work at the same time, competition is big. If you are looking for something with a voluntary org then buy a copy of the Big Issue from a street vendor when you get here, there are always loads of ads in it. Forget diving work, Manc is about as far as you can get from the sea, most of the shops are small. And it sounds like you're coming from abroad, if you're on a student visa you probably won't be able to work with it, check that first.

| OK, I've posted my introduction. Sorry about that. I'll be coming over on a Settlement Visa to join my husband. Legally, I'll be allowed to work. I know Manchester isn't ideal and I thank you for your other suggestions. Really I'll do almost anything to earn money for graduate school. It's just diving is what I love so I thought I'd ask about that, first. At least Manchester has dive shops! At University I started a club 50 miles from the nearest dive shop and 2 hours from the nearest dive site (a freshwater quarry in Alabama). One grows stronger through adversity! |
