PADI to BSAC cross over

I was chatting to a m8 last night who is thinking about swopping to BSAC. He is a IDC Staff?

Could someone let me know where he would stand with BSAC and what he would have to do?

Cheers

Intresting question:
For a crosover to CMAS it is a 2 day orientation course and that is it. However, BSAC used to teach to CMAS standards but don´t aymore even thou you can still get the CMAS bit on the back of your BSAC c-card, so me thinks it is again soeting that is down to the club that you are going to join. As CMAS , Barracuda , VDST , PADI and others have now conformed to a "EU" standard but BSAC has not met the criteria it may be easyer to cross over to CMAS and then to BSAC.
Just my 2 cents worth

Michael

this should give most ofthe info you need to know

http://www.bsac.org/techserv/salt3.htm

I believe, Note the word believe that if your mate wishes to maintain his instructor status then this would be possible once they demonstrate the additional skills that BSAC teach (SMB from bottom & midwater, shot recovery and a few other things). Once this is done I believe you just need to log a certain amount of teaching hours (12?) to gain BSAC instructor status.

The cross over is a fairly simple procedure these days.

The one piece of advice I would give is to go diving with a couple of branches to ensure that you allget along and the branch does the type of diving you wish to do.

Hope that helps

Alan

BSAC just cross over the diving grades yo dont have to do a course like you do when crossing over to PADI.

As for his instructor status, he will have to attend a BSAC instructor foundation course (IFC) to learn our ways of teaching, then i believe he has to log 12hrs teaching before BSAC give out the open water instructor grade. Also check this webiste for the more info and download the pack. http://www.bsac.org/learn/iip.htm
