Hi there

I completed my DM course there and found it very enjoyable. They are in an excellent place to run the course as they have the lake onsite so you find you will do more diving and gain valuable experience which really is the aim.

Hi Lita,

Thanks! How did you find them - were the professional, helpful in training? Also you hear that a lot of places use the divemaster course to get free labour does this happen here? Also how many dives did you have before you started the course?

Cheers

Dave

Stop right there.
Give us and address and we'll sent the team round to drink you under the table until silly ideas like that go away.
Look at what instructors do.
Shake your head.
Go diving.
Have fun.

Part of your learning rota has to be labouring it makes sense.

You start to reconise the difference between alli and steel cylinders, different kits (wings, BCD standard HUB etc) how to coil ropes, tie knots, wash kit properly, serve customs, answer the phone (not easy when the shop is full). Sort hire kit out in the right sizes for students, guestimate sort of weight they will need, give directions to the pub etc.

Agreed you can do a divemaster course without labouring but where is the fun in that?

Work hard, make yourself useful, build raport, and who knows they may even pay you when you are qualified.

Living next to the sea I may be a bit biased BUT I would suggest that although its a nusiance to travel alot do your DM course on the coast,

Why?

The boat bobs about, get your sea legs.
Divers bob about on the surface, get used to spotting them.
Currents and tides learn to work with them
Drift dives..... difficult in a lake.
Getting divers back on board (rescue scenario very different in rough seas)
Boat skills- mooring, dieseling, transit points, radio skills.

Etc

But if the lake is the order of the day then go for it.

We live in a wonderful wet word so, whatever JUST DO IT and ENJOY!!!!!

Think there was a slight misunderstanding!! I am thinking about becomming an instuctor in the FUTURE and want to start on my way by doing a Divemaster course!! (I wouldnt dream of teaching anyone at the moment). The way I see it if by doing the DM course it increases my awareness/knowledge of things diving it can't do any harm!

Are you telling me that people can't aspire to becomming an instructor in the furture!!

regards

Dave

Just a thought

I read NigelH reply as being..

The DM's have all the fun... guiding assisting etc. The Instructors get blamed for everything. DM's can flirt (and more if you want) all in the name of custome relations, instructors must remain professional (ie flirt professsionally).

If you get stroppy beligerent customer (what does that mean?) you can pass them up the command chain...

But I may have mis read it.

I am sure NigelH will tell us.

JUST DO IT !!
