We run IDC's every month through Utila Dive Centre and our August program runs from 18th to 28th with the IE on 30th/31st. If you want to arrive early and just dive with us and assist our Instructors to sharpen your skills and prepare you are more than welcome. You can also take a look at Choosing IDC an independent PADI IDC search engine for world wide locations.

From the UK you fly to Miami and then it's a 2 hour flight to Honduras. You can take a look at our dedicated pro site GoPro Utila amd if you want any specific details, costs etc, please feel free to either PM or e-mail me.

Arno at Scubaidc is a great Instructor, I will state that we are friends with Arno and his wife however. If you have any specific questions about Phuket feel free to pm me.

Aquanorth (Newcastle) are running an IDC on the 11th to 18th of September with the Instructor Exams on the 19th & 20th September. I can vouch for them because I did my IDC & IE with them, and had a whale of a time. Very hard work, but with the preperation that they supplied, all of us on the IDC sailed through the exams.

I think there is an IDC running in Tenerife later this year. Scuba1 would have details.

Well, it is cheap stuff and it comes almost from the local gardening store, but it works fine and it's very solid. We tried to destroy one by hitting it with a hammer... we succeeded but we really had to hit it hard - http://www.stde.ch/en/faq.php

Last I heard it wasn't until the end of November though.

Uk Idc

Considering that you don't actually spend that much time diving in the sea, and far more time in the classroom and pool. There's something to be said for doing your IDC in the UK rather than hot conditions abroad - appart from the extra travel expenses.

Re costs from experience they all seem to be charge very similar amounts, things to look out for are success rates... are own is 100% but make sure you ask. Also something could be said for learning with a resident or full time course director rather than traveling or part time.

Our own total course fee is £800 including your IDC Crewpak (Inst. manual, slates, + various essential reading) this excludes membership and examination fees to PADI. Our dates round that time are Sep. 21 - 30 in Plymouth with IE locally in Looe on Oct 3rd and 4th. However if there were 2 of you would set up dates to suit you. To look at everyones fixed dates go to PADI.com and do a dive centre search but select IDC as the course you'll have all the centres that do em pop up in what ever country you choose, then take a look at all of their dates.

Hope this helps,

B

Before the IDC

Pick a dive centre with a good pass rate. If they offer a money back offer if you don't pass that would be good. The most important part of diving is the Instructor or in this case Course Director.

Make sure you are fully 'au fait' with your knowledge especially physics.

Polish up your pool skills to demonstration standard.

Enjoy it !! It is fun.
