| Instructor's Area: Discuss Lapsed DM Question in the Training Area forums: My membership (DM) with PADI has lapsed. I really don't want to give them any more money, but how ... |

| Have you checked the PADI (or PADI pro) website mate? They are usually pretty good about letting you know standards and such. But back to your question, what do you mean by retrain. Are you wanting to know how long you can be a lapsed DM without needing to retrain as a DM (ie. work as a DM). I guess you know you'll have to be paid up (in Active status or whatever they call it). With instructors I don't know the exacts but you have certain bands eg. 1 year out of training: need a brief tune up and check of skills, 2 years: Need some more in depth work with a Course Director, 5 years Need to redo the IDC, more than 5 need to redo IDC and IE. The above are probably completely wrong but that's the sort of way I understand it to work. Don't quote me though and do check the PADI standards first I would have a glance at the PADI site for you mate but my internet is playing up

| PADI website is down To rephrase my question: My membership has lapsed, if I wanted to work as as a DM again, how long can I remain lapsed and re-gain active status by simply stumping up the cash for membership? |

| I'm pretty sure once your out of active status (even if only for a while)you can return to active status be doing a quiz over the net, how long you can be out of active service before you have to do somthing extra I'm not sure.

I should imagine you'd be alright within a year of lost status. Just a guess though and beyond that you'll need to check standards. Doesn't your LDS have an instructor manual they'll let you leaf through for a minute or a knowledgeable instructor who might know?

| From the PADI IM (GS&P Membership Status & Maintenance) Not much mentioned about DMs other than completing the requirements as stated on the renewal. This is related to Instructors who have gone inactive Quote:

| Each case is different. Why do you want to return as a working DM? Once qualified you'll always have the DM rating just will not be permitted to work, so no money to PADI but your card is still valid. Best bet if you're over one year out of date is to do the AI course, at least you'll then advance a bit at the same time as paying to update. imho
