Gav as you are no longer in a club does that mean you are going BSAC direct route. Or are you dropping Bsac, if so cant you just progress as you wish i.e. get with a few buddies who have done some dives at the depth you are looking for and just dive together. What depth are you looking for, 35m? max. Matt

Hi Gavin, Depends on what agency you are now following Cheers, Gary.

| I've converted my membership to BSAC Direct which runs until November this year. If/when I find a club I like the look of then I would consider joining one, but I won't rush into it this time. One of the reasons for completing the qualification and depth progression is for life insurance purposes. Yes at the moment 35m max (but in reality I won't be diving over 30m for the foreseeable future). As I can't find my qualifcation book at the moment I can't remember the exact depths but I think the progression dives are 25m (strange as one tranining dive was to 27m), 30m and 35m. These dives need to be signed off by a BSAC Instructor. Gavin

I've been away from my club, but still a member, for almost year now so I was in the same position over the winter. If you don't mind paying give Vobster Quay a call. I did mine there with John Thirlwell and I payed £30ish for a guided dive.

Your intructor should know better. At the time you were OD (or whatever) and limited to 20m. Progression past 20m should only take place after completion of all the training. No progression past 30m (the DIR END limit?) should not be a problem. I'm sure you know where your next course is coming from to allow yourself deeper dives. There are a lot of nice dives to 35m you could have been doing though under the qual of SD. Regards, Adrian

As you're Kenilworth based, you could always start off with Stoney: 1. The BOP (though can't remember its depth - 25m?) 2. Top of the hydrobox 3. Bottom of the hydrobox Not the most interesting of dives, but would suit your requirements If you really have done 27m (though you weren't qualified to do so until you'd completed SD...), then the top of the hydrobox would be OK. Two alternatives: 1. Down the vertical shotline, any problems re-ascend the shot line 2. Down the diagonal shotline to the 1st (shallower) box and if OK, down the 2nd line to the top of the 2nd (deeper) box Could possibly make Weds evening - its a "night dive" at Stoney

Gavin, Just a thought can you take your logbook / computer and mabe get your old DO to sign them off on the strength of that, if you dive with instructors from another agency, get them too write a note for the DO. Have a chat with the DO and see if thats a goer, some are reasonable, some are not. Failing that as a BSAC Direct member its just a case of getting an OWI from signing the boxes off, assuming you do a safe planned dive. Nothing too serious. I'm sure there's plenty on here that can help, if you have no luck, PM me and when we have a spare place on a club trip if your free come along. Gareth.
