Cheers for the info guys, I'll get my backside into gear and work through the BSAC side of things to start with and then cross over once done, i'm in no rush and am looking a couple of years or so down the line.

So i'd need at least BSAC instructor to count as Divemaster?

did i get that right?

I started out as PADI and crossed over to BSAC with a couple of lectures and a couple of open water check out dives etc. I was wondering if the same can be applied in reverse, obviously with some extra lectures to cover anything one agency deems important to know.

I was just looking to the future and the possibility of taking off overseas if the urge gets too much and wouldn’t mind doing something a little more enjoyable than keyboard bashing

It kind of all boils down to should I get my wallet out and pay to go through the Divemaster course or could I go the route of BSAC into instructor etc and cross over to Padi without incurring too many costs. I know it’ll take more time in the BSAC route but I’m not pressed for time at the moment.

All advice greatfully received.
I asked PADI Europe and was told that a BSAC Dive Leader and OWI would go straight into the IDC without doing DM first

That is my understanding. This is the best way of avoiding that swim test

A BSAC Instructor only needs to do the PADI AI course followed by the IDC segment and then the Instructor exams. It would be really helpful for the BSAC to be fully aware of the course syllabi (syllabuses??) of the Open water up to and including Divemaster, and also know how to fluently use the RDP and Wheel, as these are all covered in the IE...

Using the wheel and RDP is not only helpful, it is a must. I know of some BSAC Instrutors who failed the IE on just that subject. The PADI standards exam is the second hang up point in that respect.
