Ian,

I did exactly the same topic in my exam (the old Club Instructor). I stuck to the heart and the mechanics of moving the blood around from lungs to cells.

If it would be of any use, I can hopefully get you a copy on Powerpoint if I can find it.

My main visual aid was a life-size model of a heart on a stand closely followed by a reveal of a real heart (pig's) inside a medical transplant box obtained on loan from the local hospital - caused quite a stir when I threw it to the students at the end to check transfer of knowledge !!

One tip, if you are thinking of using a computer / powerpoint - have back-up printouts on transparencies. At least you can use these on an overhead projector if the computer or projector don't want to play ball.

Gary.

Just a quick correction to Steve and Dave's essential criteria

The Effective criteria means it contains all the must know information. The structure, class involvement etc etc will get you a merit!

The key is to look at one area of the circulatory system and concentrate your efforts there. Do not try and fit the whole subject into one 10 minute lecture.

Good luck

Paul

Tie

If I was you I would ensure that you have read up on Seamanship and First Aid for divers as well as the usual SD/DL student notes. You can never be too prepared and I was certainly thankful that I read and digested the above books!
If it helps, I remember questions about boat lights, chartwork and medical conditions to name a few.

FFS next I will be expected to identify types of fish or name a wreck based upon a porthole.
Chartwork, wot is that then? GPS and a commercial skipper do that.

More seriously. How similar in appearance is a pigs heart to a human heart?
One I can get from the butchers, the other requires digging in the local graveyard and that is so much effort.
Sadly my GP does not have a suitable model.

Don't sweat it. There are a couple obtuse questions, apparently intended to assess your peripheral knowledge. There is plenty of leeway in th epass mark to get those wrong and pass by getting the questions that you should know correct.

/sigh/ Being able to read a chart is pretty fundamental to planning more advanced dives. Understanding the environment is a very important part of diving.

Good luck with the exam.

Phew

Just got back from the exam.

Presentation went OK but did not asl questions to check forpeople learning. Finished saw my error and discussed with those lovely examiners.

The test is a bit hard. and so it should be.
If you are thinking of doing the TIE make sure you read The DL handbook and know a lot about the ear.

Fortunately I re read some questions spotted some mistakes-descent and ascent rates

So only a couple of weeks sleepless nights.

If you are an examiner reading this then total respect. We had a chap come down from Manchester to invigilate. Keen or what.

Result

Seems I have passed.
54/60 on the test, worthy of a merit.

Naturally I am a little chuffed.

Thank you to various people on and off board for assistance. Especially Gary (aka Blue) for critical comments on my presentation which were duly noted and incorporated.
