BSAC Dive Leader

Hello again everyone,

I am now training or my dive leader award and have a question about the expierience dives.

BSAC states that before qualifing as a DL you must have logged 8 dives Dive Leading. Is this just leading any dive that you may do, or are there certain requirements e.g does it have to be a novice diver with an instructor present??

Secondly for the 6 from boat, 10 greater than 25m does an instructor have to be present to validate these or can they sign off after viewing your logbook?? Any help would be much appreciated

regards

Chris

I think.....

From what i remember, i believe that you have to be leading the dive but your instructor doesn't have to be there. It is just a club dive that you lead a dive. The buddy can be anyone from the club whether it is a trainee or a more experienced diver. The D.O or instructor will/should then check with the buddy to make sure that you lead the dive and did all the briefs.

As for boat and deep dives these can be any dive below 25m and from a boat (either RIB or hard boat).

However ultimately it is up to the D.O/Instructor to say what he regards as experience dives.

I would suggest asking them to clarify what they want. If that doesn't help check the BSAC web site www.bsac.org.

Good luck with your Dive Leader!!

Steve

Ask your DO.

In our club we're quite practical about it all. My view is that experience dives are precisely that, and so I'll sign off an experience dive if I was on the same trip, and sometimes if I wasn't, but know the people involved (eg a couple of mates book on a boat out of the south coast).

We are all adults after all. Well, most of us are.
