Depends ..... if you *really* want to frog kick in an anti silting kind of way then the frog kicking needs to be in flat trim and not cause the knees to drop below the waist. If you essentially breast stroke kick then the knees *will* drop below the waist .... an anti-silting kind of frog kick requires a higher degree of ankle rotation that the breast stroke version.

From another thread - how about dive boat etiquette. Use of ladders & lifts, don't stand below other divers, keeping reg in, don't dis the skipper's dog or break the heads, that kind of thing.... or take up lots & lots of space

Just as an aside, but having been lost in a wreck before (Report here) although I'm comfortable in low viz. I would always reel off or abort the dive if I could not see the "green glow" above me.

Yes there is certainly more to the ankle motion but you progress into this.

My knees are below waist level generally 'cos i like to be head up to see where i'm going and i usually get by OK on silty sites.

Not too worried about silt, as I don't do silty places and they are pretty few & far between here but I do find it's a lot less effort and hence better on air consumption than the more conventional scissor/flutter kick.

By inexperienced I’m thinking of people at perhaps PADI AOW level or BSAC OD, with 20 or 30 dives.

Things like:
  • ·Lauching an DSMB
  • ·Using a pony cylinder
  • ·Hovering & frog kicking to not stir up the silt
  • ·Buddy diving
  • ·Ways of coping with stressful situations
  • ·Torches & how to use them better
  • ·Basic dive planning
  • ·Spares & tools
Any good ideas?
Yeah, leave your phone in the car but remember to take your brain with you
