A group of divers, of mixed ability kitted up on the slipway
to the Ouse river in York. One inexperienced diver mentioned
that he was quite nervous about the thought of diving in
the cold, fast moving river. His buddy says to him in a
warm and comforting tone that all would be ok and if at
anytime he felt the need to he could just hold onto his hand
for reassurance. The sight of the two of them walking down
the slipway hand in hand will stay with me forever.

Its not exactly what someone said but had one similar. Dedicated student took his mask away and spent a good 50 minutes rubbing the stuff in REALLY hard........on the OUTSIDE of the lens.

It still amazes me that I walk AROUND small rain-type puddles while wearing a drysuit

Yep, my favorite "scared of fish story" was in lanzarote on the final dive of
an Ocean Diver course. Just over the dropoff in 17m, when the student
bottled it to the surface. A quick grab from me, calmed him down and as it
was near the end anyway, time for an exit.

After dekitting asked what spooked him.

    S "it was that fish"
T "but you've been around fish all week"
S "yes, but this one came close"

    And the offending fish?

A Blue Damsel of about 50mm length (if that)

Club Chairman and myself were interviewed on local radio about wrecks off Brighton. I lost the plot a little when he described diving as ' a fluid situation'

While assisting as a DM, the Instructor included this during the briefing at Stoney:
'be careful not to touch any of the metal and pipes underwater, not only are they sharp but they can get very hot'

Later, while enjoying a post dive drink one of the students was overheard saying to a friend:
'It's great at Stoney - I love the underwater heating - it's much warmer than other places I've dived in the UK'

Hey it's not just students - in Sharm the incredulous look on our tech instructor's face when a newly qualified OWSI walked over to him presented his dive computer and said 'Hey, what does this PO2 thing mean?"

Seen someone do it, but apply it using some toothbrush with like anti-plaque plastic bits and scratched the crap out of the lenses of his brand new mask.
