Ive been told by HSE that even though they work "for free" like bsac they STILL have to comply with ACoP. Something to do with the fact that PADI is a profit making organisation and students buy materials off them.
Seems very flimsy given BSAC do the same to me though but there you go.

Ive had to turn down mates that wanted some PADI stuff purely because its not practical to adhere fully to ACoP for 1 person for no money.

They would similarly not be covered.

HSE and ACoP are intended to protect the person who is 'at work' and not necessarily the trainee, although clearly adhering to those standards can only enhance the safety of all involved.

All BSAC "profits" are plowed back into the club, so even if BSAC charge
for eg: a diver pack, the same person that bought it, will get that money
(or the benefit) back in other ways.

Even in the pro-BSAC world any profits, go to the benefit of the membership
as a whole.

Very much not like PADI, different animal.

I'm a bit worried. I'm a BSAC instructor but I'm neither hairy nor bearded.

Thinking about it, no-one on the HELLFINS COMMITTEE is particularly hairy, apart from Pete who has a bit of a 'tache.

I'm worried now. Can someone reassure me we're a proper club.

Most BSAC instructors shave their beards off for fear of being identified in public - the shame would be unbearable - but they do have secret beard parties. I have a small detachable 'tache as I am only a Asst OWI and not fully qualified yet. This doesn't qualify me for the parties. (me thinks this is the start of a silly interlude...) you can only expect it with an opening post like that....

Despite being over 30 years old, I genuinely can't grow a beard (I blame my East European heritage). Should I hand back my Advanced Instructor qualification? Or will a 'strap-on' be sufficient in the meantime.

you're clearly far too metrosexual & need to attend the "Beard Operation & Maintenance" and "Advanced Hirsuteness" SDC's

oh well - if you have no beard you can't 'stroke' it

My facial hair tends to look like Shaggy from Scoobydoo after 3 days - more on one side than the other - so I don't tend to ever let it grow as it looks very silly lol
