| not for hairybearded bsac club inst-pro's only right this is a question for those of you who are working for commercial businesses, after the discussion about wages- those who like to be paid and those who do it just for rewards or the fun of it... how many of you understand what your role and responsibilities are within the HSE? what you need to do each time you sling on a cylinder? As your both covered by the same rules... does your centre explain it too you? sorry bsac club instructors, no offence, this thread isnt for you as your excluded from this aspect of UK diving regulations... |

| Please don't exclude BSAC instructors, some of us get paid and have to abide by HSE and ACoP (approved code of practice) at work. This is what I understand about HSE and diving: We need to have: A risk assessment (which is lengthy and complex) An emergency plan including O2 and first aid procedures A qualified dive supervisor who is competent to oversee all training activity Well maintained equipment One safety diver per instructor with students in the water A log / record of all dive training activity There is probably more to it but as far as I understand it - those are the basics. Do I win £5?

| I don't see why you think BSAC instructors would be exempt from HSE regulations?

In the UK, BSAC instructors teaching within a school for pay (or other enrichment) are covered by the regs and ACoP. I don't think the OP knows that there are BSAC professionals out there.
