So, I guess the main reason was to find local people to dive with.

However, did you really cross-over to TDI when you did their course? I've done courses with BSAC, TDI, IANTD and GUE, but I don't consider myself to have crossed over. They just offered courses that I wanted to do.

I guess another way of think about is this: do you keep your BSAC membership current?

A friend of mine was BSAC and was posted abroad where all the local dive businesses were PADI so he crossed over.

Sorry to be a pain, but wrong again, that changed in about 2007

You can now dip in and out of BSAC and do any other agency course and
as long as you follow basic SALT on your return, will get credit for it against
    future BSAC qualifications.

I think thats spot on. You pay for diver training regardless of your training agency. So where ever the money goes determines your association. The BSAC clubs are a great idea but limited in its majority inside the UK hence then the need to cross into and out of it.

If it helps there is a chart on the following web site:-

    http://www.saa.org.uk/Portals/0/6.5a.pdf

before anyone shoots me down in flames i know its for SAA But it shows the equivilent CMAS (Confédération Mondiale des Activitiés Subaquatiques (World Confederation of Underwater Activities)) qualification which the majority of dive organisations conform with.

    Hope it helps
    Its dive time

hmmm perhaps the HQ needs to ensure branches and HQ vstaff know what they are talking about then.

currently looking for a new branch ( exeter is a bit far now) and at least one of them has told me a SALT is only once. not that i am bothered by it cos I am staying with BSAC.

Oi! It's the same distance it ever was

Best of luck finding the right club. Hellfins perhaps?

Just don't be a stranger. Well no stranger than usual.

Cant blaim them, it's the DO's job to keep the club informed or at least
    check that they are informed.

I will admit I picked one course (CCR Mod3) by the instructor and didn't know what agency he did cards from until I was sitting in his office filling in the forms ready to dive the next day.
