    PADI and the RDP

Here is an excerpt fromt eh 3rd quarter training bulletin.......

planning to your student divers – RDP Tables, eRDPML
TM or the dive computer option. Whichever option
is selected, your student divers will continue to learn the basics of decompression theory, the importance of
dive planning to keep nitrogen levels within an acceptable limit and the importance of monitoring depth,
bottom time and surface intervals as they always have in the Open
    Water Diver Manual.
    Whatever next.

Could see this coming when they re-invented "the wheel" eRDPML, me personally i shall be sticking solely to the RDP purely because i think students should need to know the basics,
and as part of my PADI salesmanship will be pushing dive watches..lol

Did I read this right? They are saying there is no need to teach people how to use a basic dive planner chart? They are saying it is OK just to teach them to dive on computers? I hope, if this is the case they insist that each person has two computers.

I can't remember the last time I looked at the PADI tables but I can still run through the max no deco times in my head, an invaluable back up if I ever need to do some quick underwater maths.

Yes you read it right, you can choose any 1 of 3 options, this is where i have to disagree with PADI the RDP needs to be compulsory!

How many dive schools are likely to equip themselves with enough computers to allow a whole course to be taught using just computers?
I know people struggle with the rdp, but at least it gets them thinking about what dive times mean.
