| Hi Hi new to this forum, been looking for one for a few weeks finally found one that looks good. Been diving since august this year but something ive always wanted to do. Started with girlfriend as at least ive got a buddy then and she loves it same as me. Both AOW with Nitrox Qualifcations Thinking of switching to BSAC to get a greater depth Would like to hear people suggestions on this. Cheers |

| Hi Mark, and welcome to YD The crossover issue is one tha faces me as well. I am currently a PADI Rescue Diver, but had very few buddies (pre YD membership!), so my diving was very limited. I am looking at a local BSAC club to do crossover, and the good news is that these days you can get an equivalent BSAC membership without having to do all of the training again, but if you want to move upwards in the BSAC training structure, then you *do* have to start again at the bottom. Your local club may vary though, so its a case of having a good chat with them before joining, to make sure that they can offer you what you want. Whichever system you choose though, you will need to do more training before you can go too deep anyway. Enjoy the forums, and have fun!

| Cheer mate been speaking to 2 Advanced BSAC members and the instuctor and they said i can just switch over as an open water diver, and go in as sports diver and just do a few rescue skills to fully get to that level. Im seeing them again on thursday in pub so ill let you no if it is that easy. i intend to have fun and hopefully see some of you lot at dives in future |

| Crossover Mixup Ok, you should be able to get credit for the level you have achieved. However as different agencies do stuff at different times for their own qualifications, you may find yourself restricted until you've done some crossover bits (like the "this is how the BSAC works" lecture and the 88 tables). You should still find you have credit from what you've done, and just have to fill in the gaps (not start from square 1). Hope that helps. Personally, I would probably opt for a good BSAC club to get a stable group of dive buddies, and good mentorship. BEWARE not all BSAC clubs are the same - they come in as many textures as there are individuals on this planet, so club A may not suit you but club B may be totally different. Best advice is to go to some club nights, pool sessions, lecture, and most importantly on some dives BEFORE joining up. If they can't accomodate that list....... then personally bells would start ringing. Hope you all get what you want, and remember YD for buddies and trips. Cheers, Paul |
