Depends on how many mistakes you make, you can end up with a large heap of pvc etc.

How much you would pay yourself for the time you put in.

How much of the equipment you have to buy, to enable yourself to make the bits.

If you sat down and priced the rebreather as it stands in cost of parts alone yes, then you put everything else in then no.

Being able to know how it works and that you made it.

No, not at all, but it helps with the understanding of how they work. Most cost can be put down to finding and chasing up parts, ie if you say £10/hour for your time, then something simple like my IDA has cost me well over £1500 in total ! If I sold it, I would probably get only half that back in parts.
