Hello. I just joined. Couldn't resist.
Hello. I have joined your divers' forum. I talk way too much about absolutely everything, so I apologise now, in advance!

A few words about me (and most people seem to like as few as possible):

Been diving since 1981 (Ilkeston & Kimberley British SAC).

Dived through college (Plymouth University (nee polytechnic)) Marine Biology, nautical technology and lots of fish stuff, 1983-86.

Had a break through the 90s during which I was working in the marine industry (marine science and fisheries research) and had no inclination to jump in the water.

Carried on diving; went through the PADI mill to MSD 2004-06.

Did the IANTD 'baby techie' course in 2006 (Advanced Nitrox & Recreational Trimix with Martin Robson of Eau2 and The Eau Zone).

Discovered the price of trimix in 2007 - so I decided to save up for a rebreather.

Discovered that diving is about simplicity, reliability and safety as well as fun, so threw away all my toys and went a bit Hogarthian. (Kept my lime green snorkel though !!)

2008: Discovered the price of rebreathers, so am currently growing gills.

My biggest diving mistake ever? Buying a 300bar steel 2x12 litre twinset. I could write volumes as to why I should have not done that. Especially doing it the week before a training course...

Other stuff:
Skier of 20 years (offpiste and back-country)
Motorbikes (a sink for your money) - especially Ducatis. They teach you a lot about the meaning of the word 'Reliability'.
Video editor (I get paid for this - sometimes...)

Current personal project: Working towards not taking myself too seriously.

Ilkeston is, in the words of the late Douglas Adams (HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy, etc). "Mostly Harmless".

Diving in Ilkeston? Hmmm. There are plenty of dives in Ilkeston, that's true. Most of them serve flat, warm beer though.
