Hello there. marmite is a rancid, foul tasting brown slime which is derived from the waste products (not by-products) of the food industry. I've never tased a marmot but would confidently imagine that the waste products of the marmot taste considerably better than what comes out of a jar of marmite. Hope that helps and welcome to YD!

Hello Kathy
Sorry about highjacking your post and I whish you and you son all the best with his upcomming introduction to the underwaterworld. If it's possible in your area might I recomend a private instructor or a very small class to assure the attention that he may need to assure his successfull certification.

frosty the snowman Thank you for sharring this information with me and your personal opinion of the animal by-product known as Marmite. I will definatly avoid this product in the container you thankfully posted should I see it displayed in the toilet bowl section of our local building supply store. However to be fare to others who have taken the time to post here I should first ask if this is only how you and your fellow residents from an "unpronouncable Devon village" percive this product or is this the general perception of most of the UK population?

Personaly I thought the same as yourself when I gaged on the vegemite I tried and will continue to patronise the more well known makers of peanut butter from back home which joyfully is now availiable in our local Tesco in Phuket.

Dry suit diver I agrre with you that any product containing edible byproducts / stomach contents such as flora & fauna should be considered a good green food due to the wonders of modern recycling. Does the inovative "Nigella" brand name also market and produce marmot and / or lemming spreads?

Regards From Phuket

Richard & Megumi

Back to Marmite

Isn't Marmite the good stuff in yeast that's left after they take the beer out?

To be honest, I can take it or leave it

My son Andy has been reading all your tips hints and advice you have all sent us re his up coming Ocean diver course!

He's come to the conclusion that you are all as mad as hatters! and failing getting through his theory he'll keep an extra large jar of Marmite in his bag for bribery!

Cheers!

Marmite is a bit hit and miss for bribery, chocolate works well, beer usually warrants a merit pass.
Not that such activity could ever be condoned.

A Marmite fan
