Talking Hello!

Hi All,
I'm the East Anglian Coordinator for Seasearch, which is probably a bit out of the way for most of you, but we do have some interesting courses coming up, and this list seems to cover more people than the Eastern BSAC list! I've been diving for 10 years, involved in Seasearch for 3 and fell into the coordinator post 6 months ago. Oddly enough, there's not much enthusiasm for diving East Anglia in general and Suffolk in particular, so it's been a bit of an uphill struggle! In order to draw people in, we run casual shore dives in North Norfolk most weekends over the Spring and Summer, and will be doing an Observer course (Ipswich) and Nudibranch and photography weekend (Norfolk) in June. I'll post more details about those on the appropriate forum later. My partner is currently on his way to stand around at LIDS all day on the Seasearch stand, if anyone's going. He'll be the one wearing a badge with a girl's name on it, as I had to work at the last minute. He refused to wear a hair ribbon though.

welcome and enjoy YD - used to live in Norfolk - where do you do your shore dives? Have friends in and around Norwich so may be up there
at times.

I'd be interested to know more about the shore dives around East Anglia too!

I have friends who live in Kessingland so might be up in that direction from time to time. Nice to have a few more dive options too!

Talking North Norfolk shore diving

If you're interested in the shore diving, we dive the Rosalie at Weybourne and the Vera at Cley. Both require a 2-400m walk along shingle, so they're not for the faint-hearted, though hanging on to the end of slack does get you a free ride on the current back to the carpark. There is a page under construction on our website describing both: Norfolk's Twin Wreck Challenge
The Vera is now much harder to find since the storm surge over the winter and really needs a buoy at low slack so you can dive it at high. Both wrecks are within 100m of the beach and 5-10m deep, so make a nice easy long dive or energetic snorkel. As soon as the vis clears (might be as late as May!) we'll be going in most weekends. We'll also be doing some speculative Suffolk shore dives, but I don't think they'll be up to much... These are just casual dives, not really organised or supervised; you don't need to be a member of Seasearch, but you are responsible for your own safety and that of your buddy.

Thanks for all the welcome messages!
