Clueless Aussie diver says hi!

Hi all!

I've recently moved to London from Sydney and would love to continue diving around the UK and also abroad on holidays.

I wouldn't necessarily call myself a tropical diver, but relative to you guys, I probably am! I'm accustomed to diving in temperatures around 17-23C but I've heard that the diving here is a lot colder. I don't have a drysuit currently, but if I do find myself actively diving in the UK then I will look to get one.

I'm guessing that day and weekend trips to the south coast are the easiest way to get wet? I've only briefly heard of some diving in Brighton, but will have to read up on these forums to see what other dive sites are easily accessible from London. I have an interest in wrecks too, and have heard that a lot of wrecks on the south coast are at a relatively shallow depth.

Anyway, looking forward to properly checking out the UK diving and perhaps meeting some of you further down the track!

Cheers
Ev

Those are our summer temperatures. I have had it as warm as 23C on August in the Channel, but it's normally more like 18C. In the winter it gets down to about 8C.

From London, the easiest places to get to with reasonable diving are sites like Eastbourne, Littlehampton and Weymouth. The viz is normally better the further west you go.

What kind of diver are you? Open Circuit, twins, CCR?

If you will, tell us what kind of diving you've done so far.

Thanks for the tips, Jason P.

Some further info on my dive exp - I dive on OC. I started my deco course back in Sydney but never got around to finishing it so have dived once with twins and a sling cylinder. I'm hoping to do my deco course here, and hopefully that will allow me to dive some of the deeper wrecks.

Most of my diving has been to 30m or shallower, though dived once on a 50m wreck for 4 minutes bottom time! My head was fine, or at least not noticeably bad.
