High blood pressure

Hi
I was looking for some advice. I am a qualified diver and have been diving for a few years. Unfortunately I have been diagnosed with high blood pressure with kidney problems. Has anyone out there had similar. I guess I will need to get a dive medical. Will I be ok for diving ??

hi ,

if the hbp is connected to your kindney problems . get it sorted and all will be fine .

if hbp is due to other reasons a dive doc may not let you dive depending on how high it is . this can be treated with medication . you cannot dive whilst on this medication

all posts on this thread are opinions and not doctors findings .

so go down the town and say " whats up doc "

See a diving Doc

You can still dive with High blood pressure (raised) if its controlled, but only with certain drugs.....ask the doc first

medication

Hi Steve
Thanks for your reply
I know that if someone is on medication for BP they are on it for the rest of their lives. Are you sure diving is not permitted whilst on medication

I'm on blood pressure pills, they're the calcium channel inhibiter variety and I am ok to dive. Think other kinds of medication like beta blockers can be tricky though. Get advice.

Hope you get it sorted/stabalised then cleared to dive.

Cheers

Lyv

as said some are and some arent . asprin some docs in different parts of the world allow . whereas warfin there is a deff no go for divin .

tell the doc what you wish to do he may be able to perscribe other meds that you can dive with but if they dont work the meds will have to change

your health is your priorty and snorkling is allowed whilst on these meds

no bother ,
just take it easy when you start diving again . dont do anything to stressful . dont do anything where you are pushing your own limits .

and always rem the best divin is in the first 15 - 20 meters .
unless its in the bedroom

Unhappy

I saw the nurse at my local GP's yesterday and had my blood pressure taken again as I had a slightly higher than normal reading about 3 weeks ago when I went for a check up.

It was still borderline, even after I have changed my diet completely, packed in drinking during the week and am exercising every night.

So, I'm off to get an ECG in a couple of weeks time to see whats going on, should be interesting as I've never had anything like this in my life before.

I'll see what is prescribed (if anything) and mention diving etc.

I blame the wife.
