| Hi all, since BA recently sold GB Airways to EasyJet, does anyone know who is the best airline to use for Malta flying out of Manchester, regarding excess baggage allowances? BA have a generous allowance on sports equipment, but this now means a shuttle flight to Gatwick. Has anyone had any experience wih Thomsonfly or BritishJet? Their websites are total gobbledoogook regarding excess baggage. I've tried emailing & phoning (forget it)! Any pointers would be very much appreciated. Ta, Brian |

| Ryanair from Luton, shite luggage allowance (15kg)but you can pay £30 for sports allowance (another 20kg) which still means sometimes the flight still works out cheaper than Airmalta....

| Hi serp, yes indeed Air Malta go to Malta, I even used them once myself years ago. Again though, no information on their website about their policy on excess baggage regarding sports equipment. Can you elaborate any further on this please, have you flown with them recently with extra baggage? As I'll be checking-in two cases of a combined weight of 46 kgs. BA will accept this on an economy ticket no problem, and I doubt if any other airline can match this? So it's looking more and more like I'll have to book with BA. Cheers, Brian Quote:

| Hi yazzyfooty, thanks for your input, also 'thanks' to everyone that's chipped-in on this. This is not a bad allowance for divers, where did you find this info? The problem I have is checking-in 46 kgs (the RB is most of it). So if it boiled-down to paying for another 10 kilos it could get nasty?! Cheers, Brian Quote:

| We booked our ticket online and had a mild panic as there was no where to state you were also booking in diving equipment on the online form as their website states it must be stated when booked. Phone call, email and a visit to Air Malta desk it was clarified that as long as we show our diving cert at check in it will be ok (we also have the persons name who said it). If you are carrying 46kgs then you need to prebook 11kgs excess luggage which works out a bit cheaper thn paying excess on the day.. ![]() In the end we argued them when we got back and managed to get our money back and an apology over the confusing website, (which still hasn't been changed). TBH stick with BA there baggage allowance is much easier to understand and is much more generous in the first place. |
